Subject: Quadruple Precision LAPACK
Dear NA-Netters
Looking for a quadruple precision LAPACK (real*16 on Sun) or LINPACK?
Has anyone performed a clean LAPACK conversion into quad precision (with
maybe q prefix and adjusted blas)?
Compile options could conflict with needed double precision calls!
Thank you
A. Al-Omar

Subject: Public Release of DAKOTA Software Toolkit
DAKOTA:
A Software Toolkit for Design Optimization, Uncertainty
Quantification, Parameter Estimation, and Sensitivity Analysis on
High Performance Computers
Sandia National Laboratories*
Albuquerque, NM
USA
The DAKOTA (Design Analysis Kit for Optimization and Terascale
Applications) toolkit provides a flexible and extensible interface
between simulation codes and iterative analysis methods. DAKOTA contains
algorithms for optimization with gradient and nongradient-based methods;
uncertainty quantification with sampling, analytic reliability, and
stochastic finite element methods; parameter estimation with nonlinear
least squares methods; and sensitivity analysis with design of
experiments and parameter study methods. These capabilities may be used
on their own or as components within advanced strategies such as
surrogate-based optimization, mixed integer nonlinear programming, or
optimization under uncertainty. By employing object-oriented design to
implement abstractions of the key components required for iterative
systems analyses, the DAKOTA toolkit provides a flexible and extensible
problem-solving environment for design and performance analysis of
computational models on high performance computers.
DAKOTA Version 3.0 is now available for download under the terms of the
GNU General Public License from the following web site:

Subject: Staff Positions at United Technologies Research Center
Openings in the Dynamic Analysis and Optimization Group at the United
Technologies Research Center
The Dynamic Analysis and Optimization Group at the United Technologies
Research Center (UTRC) invites qualified individuals to apply for open
positions. There are several exciting opportunities to join an expanding
group with focus in the areas of analysis and control of nonlinear dynamic
systems, optimization and uncertainty analysis, and multi-scale modeling and
model reduction techniques for large-scale systems.
United Technologies Research Center is an internationally recognized R&D
organization that conducts research across a broad range of technology areas
in support of operating units of United Technologies Corporation (UTC).
These include Otis (elevators), Carrier (heating, air conditioning and
refrigeration), UTC Fuel Cells (fuel cells), Pratt & Whitney (aircraft
engines and industrial gas turbines), Sikorsky (helicopters), and
Hamilton-Sundstrand (aerospace equipment). The Systems department at UTRC is
responsible for research activities at UTC on dynamic systems, controls and
operational research. The activities include the analysis of dynamic
systems, numerical analysis for large-scale systems and reduced-order
modeling, optimization and uncertainty analysis, signal processing,
diagnostics and prognostics. More information on UTRC can be found at
<http://www.utrc.utc.com/>.
Expertise is desired in the areas of optimization, uncertainty analysis,
reduced-order modeling and the numerical analysis of nonlinear dynamic
systems. The applications currently studied involve multi-phase and
multi-species fluid dynamics, combustion, acoustics, and model-based
controls. Specific duties include the development of analyses and tools in
the areas of nonlinear dynamic analysis (continuation and bifurcation
analysis), homogenization and reduced-order modeling, nonlinear control
strategies, numerical optimization and propagation of uncertainty. The
positions require experience in numerical analysis and computation that is
relevant for large-scale dynamic simulation and analysis.
Each individual in the group participates in a one to three different
projects, all directly contributing to the solution of practical engineering
problems. Most projects are multidisciplinary in nature. The minimum
requirement is a strong background in mathematics and numerical modeling
expertise. A master's degree in applied mathematics, computational physics
or in a relevant engineering discipline plus three years of professional
experience developing and using computational methods for dynamic problems,
developing relevant numerical analysis or constructing control algorithms is
the current qualification expectation. Experience with modeling multi-phase
flows or thermodynamic systems, or the analysis of hierarchical, multi-scale
systems is a plus. A Ph.D. is very desirable. Preference will be given to
candidates with expertise in: 1) numerical methods for simulation and
analysis of large scale dynamical systems, 2) extraction of reduced order
models from partial differential equation models or data, 3) analysis and
synthesis of nonlinear control strategies for large scale systems, 4)
methods in optimization and uncertainty propagation, and 5) demonstrated
ability to work both independently and as a member of multidisciplinary
teams.
