Subject: OptimaNumerics Libraries for Intel Xeon EM64T Linux
OptimaNumerics, leader in high performance technical and scientific
computing software, today introduced OptimaNumerics Libraries for
Intel Xeon EM64T Linux platform.
OptimaNumerics Libraries for Intel Xeon EM64T provide customers with
the highest performance numerical software components to enable
efficient technical and scientific computations.
OptimaNumerics Libraries, with linear algebra, parallel linear algebra
and parallel random number generators modules, provide high
performance versions of LAPACK, ScaLAPACK, SPRNG and PLFG libraries.
Benchmark results of OptimaNumerics Libraries for the 64-bit Xeon
processor have shown significant performance improvements, with
components delivering 50x faster solutions.
The new OptimaNumerics Libraries for the Intel Xeon EM64T processor
build on OptimaNumerics' innovative technologies that have
consistently delivered superior performance and portability across a
wide range of platforms. Other platforms supported include the Intel
Xeon and Itanium processor families, the AMD Opteron, IBM POWER, IBM
PowerPC, HP PA-RISC, HP Alpha and Sun UltraSPARC architectures.
"The rapid availability of OptimaNumerics Libraries support for the
Intel Xeon EM64T Linux platform, as well as the high level of
performance delivered, highlights the benefit and the reliability of
our technologies, enabling our customers to take advantage of this new
processor to satisfy their computational needs in a timely and cost
effective manner", commented Dr Kenneth Tan, CEO of OptimaNumerics

Subject: Distributed-Memory Parallel General Sparse Solver
We are pleased to announce the inclusion of a distributed-memory
parallel general sparse direct solver to the Watson Sparse Matrix
Package (WSMP). Until recently, WSMP included robust, fast, and
scalable solvers for symmetric linear systems for serial, shared-,
and distributed-memory parallel machines and for general systems
for serial and shared-memory parallel machines. The newly added
distributed-memory parallel general solver is currently available
for AIX, Linux (IA32 and IA64), and Tru64 systems (serial/multithreaded
solvers are available for HP-UX, SunOS, and Linux on Opteron as well).
The software can be obtained from http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/wsmp
and documentation, related technical papers, and example programs
are available at http://www.cs.umn.edu/~agupta/wsmp.html.
For any questions or comments, please send e-mail to anshul@watson.ibm.com.

Subject: LAPACK Compatible Library for QR Factorization
We are pleased to release an LAPACK compatible library for evaluation by
the scientific computing community. This library is being developed in
stages. We have started slightly off the beaten track by first
implementing QR factorization related routines. What is new about this
library is that it employs a radically different approach to developing
and implementing the routines (see http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/flame/).
We believe this approach greatly reduces the cost, in time and money,
of deriving algorithms, implementing them in code, and maintaining the
resulting library. Our release of the library serves to demonstrate this point.
We make binaries and information available at
http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/flame/Downloads/. Those who already use
LAPACK can link these libraries in addition to the already used LAPACK
library and get the benefit of the new implementations while retaining
the full functionality of the original LAPACK library. The algorithms
in our library maintain the same stability properties of the original
algorithms.
We are still tuning the library for different platforms. On some
systems, our new approach merely matches the performance of vendor
supplied LAPACK implementations. On other systems, performance
improvements of up to 10% have been reported. We welcome all feedback,
both negative and positive.
