John Todd, Pioneer of 20th-Century Mathematics, Dies

John Todd, one of the pioneers of numerical analysis, died Thursday, June
21, at his home in Pasadena, California. He was 96. Todd's legacy and impact
on modern-day mathematics can be seen in his contributions to analysis,
linear algebra, and computation. His work was a precursor to and helped
shape the foundation for today's computer science field. A professor
at the California Institute of Technology, Todd developed the
first undergraduate courses at Caltech in numerical analysis and numerical
algebra, which play a key role in scientific computing.

Subject: SPRNG Random Number Generators available on the Cell
Dear Colleagues,
I am happy to inform you that the SPRNG Parallel Random Number
Generator libraries, Version 1.0, have been ported to the Cell
processor by K. Gunaranjan at Sri Sathya Sai University, India. We
have not made them available from the SPRNG web pages yet. You may
obtain them by directly contacting K. Gunaranjan at
gunaranjan.84@gmail.com.
Let me also clarify the differences between the different version
of SPRNG here, since many users appear to need some clarification on
this. All the random number generators in all the SPRNG versions are
identical, and call the code implemented in SPRNG 1.0. They differ
mainly on their interfaces.
SPRNG 1.0 allows an application to call only one type of random number
generator in any given run. Of course, users may use several streams
and variants in the same application. This version will be ideal for a
typical C or Fortran application user. C++ users may also use this,
but calling sprng like any C function.
SPRNG 2.0 permits use of different types of random number generators
in the same application, at the cost of some decrease in speed. This
will be particularly useful to users who are trying to develop new
types of random number generators by combining different generators.
SPRNG 4.0 provides C++ wrappers to the SPRNG 2.0 library.

discretization of realistic models for polymer flows. The theoretical
