While object-oriented programming has been embraced in industry,
particularly in
the form of C++, Java, and Python, its acceptance by the parallel scientific
programming community has been relatively slow. Nonetheless, various
factors
practically dictate the use of language features that provide higher level
abstractions than do C or older FORTRAN standards. These include
increasingly
complex physics models, numerical algorithms, and hardware, e.g. deep memory
hierarchies, ever-increasing numbers of processors, the advent of multi-core
processors; more recently the use of heterogeneous architectures using
the IBM
Cell/BE or GP-GPUs, and soon the experimentation with many-core processors.

This workshop seeks to bring together researchers and practitioners in this
growing and evolving field to `compare notes' on their work. The
emphasis is on
how object-oriented programming can benefit scientific computing
specifically:
new or novel frameworks, approaches, techniques, or idioms that use object
orientation. Multi-paradigmatic approaches are also of definite interest.
Presentations of work in progress are welcome.

Call for Participation

SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering (CSE11)
February 28, 2011 – March 4, 2011
Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, Reno, Nevada
http://www.siam.org/meetings/cse11/
Sponsored by SIAM Activity Group on Computational Science and Engineering

Co-chairs
Padma Raghavan, Pennsylvania State University, USA
Ulrich Ruede, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany

The SIAM CS&E conference seeks to enable in-depth technical
discussions on a wide variety of major computational efforts on large
problems in science and engineering, foster the interdisciplinary
culture required to meet these large-scale challenges, and promote the
training of the next generation of computational scientists.

Submission Deadlines
* August 23, 2010: Minisymposium proposals
* August 30, 2010: Abstracts for contributed and minisymposium speakers

Funding Agency

SIAM and the Conference Organizing Committee wish to extend their
thanks and appreciation to the U.S. National Science Foundation for
its support of this conference.

Subject: Preconditioning Techniques, Bordeaux, France, May 2011

Call for papers for the
7th International Conference on Preconditioning Techniques (Precond'2011)

Paper submission due: December 17, 2010
Notification of acceptance: January 17, 2011
Conference: May 16--18, 2011 in Bordeaux, France

Further informations:
http://precond11.bordeaux.inria.fr

This conference is a sequel to six successful "preconditioning"
meetings (one every two years) which address complex issues related to
the solution of general sparse matrix problems in large-scale
applications and in industrial settings. The goal of the conference
is to exchange ideas on recent developments in preconditioning
techniques for sparse linear systems of equations, and to a lesser
extent for eigenvalue problems. Precond-11 will highlight two important
themes related to the full exploitation of petaflop-scale computers
for solving large sparse matrix problems. The first of these themes
is 'multi-core programming' and the second is 'graph and mesh
partitioning'.

Conference Chairs
Pascal Henon, INRIA Bordeaux Sud-Ouest
Esmond Ng, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
Yousef Saad, University of Minnesota
Wei-Pai Tang, The Boeing Company
